The Maritime museum in Grenivík offers a unique insight into the age-long history of fishing in this small village located virtually at the end of the road on Eyjafjörður's east coast. It is open during summer.

The Laufás heritage museum is a mere 3 minutes drive from Ártún. Regular opening hours during summer, and open for visitors upon request during winter.

Birdwatching - The area of Eyjafjörður and Þingeyjarsýslur offer a rich and varied birdlife, where 62 of the 75 native birds of Iceland nest. Ártún farm is perfectly situated between mountain-slopes, a river-delta and the shore of the fjord, offering a unique variety of birdlife within its grounds.

Golf - The Hvammur-golf course is located on the outskirts of Grenivík-village, within a 10 minute driving-range. A 9-hole course, par 34, with 4 extra practice-holes for beginners. As advance booking is not required, this golf-course is ideal for the casual visitor.

Swimming pool - The municipal swimming pool of Grýtubakkahreppur is in Grenivík, 8 km. from Ártún. Besides the 16 m long open-air main pool, it offers a hot tub, a sauna and a gym. The pool is only open to the public during summer. Opening hours: Mondays, wednesdays and fridays: 09:00 - 18:00. Tuesdays and thursdays: 06:00 - 18:00. Weekends: 10:00 - 16:00.

Horse-rental - A few minutes drive - or a few more minutes walk - will bring you to our neighbours horse-rental, Pólar-hestar (http://www.polarhestar.is/). There, you can rent a pony for beginners and professional riders alike, for longer and shorter treks, with or without guides.

Hikes & adventures - An almost unlimited variety of hikes along the coast, mountains, valleys, rivers and other natural phenomena in the area surrounding Ártún are available. Long, difficult walking routes to uninhabited areas in summer or fun-filled, short spurts along the snow-covered roads on a snowmobile in the wintertime, and anything in between. With or without a guide, for beginners and professionals - just ask, and we'll help you find your dream-trip.
